Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life – walking, talking, thinking and feeling – and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing the life you once lived and the person you once were.

A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. When it does, we're here to help.

On a national level, Headway provides a range of front-line services to help those affected by brain injury, including:

  • a freephone Helpline (0808 800 2244, helpline@headway.org.uk)
  • a comprehensive award-winning website containing information and fact sheets on all aspects of brain injury (www.headway.org.uk)
  • an award-winning range of booklets and publications designed to help people understand and cope with the effects of brain injury
  • an Emergency Fund to assist people dealing with the financial implications in the immediate aftermath of a brain injury
  • support to a network of more than 125 groups and branches that provide physical, cognitive and social rehabilitation and support to individuals and families
  • a directory of approved residential homes, rehabilitation units and respite facilities specialising in ABI.

The charity also lobbies for better support and resources to be made available to people affected by brain injury and works to raise awareness of brain injury and the devastating effects it can have.

Help us to improve life after brain injury

Headway relies on voluntary donations to continue to provide vital services to brain injury survivors and their families. Headway is independent and impartial. As more people now survive accidents and live with brain injury, the need for our work is growing.

Your support will help us to continue providing information and support to those who need it through our free phone helpline, publications, Acute Trauma Support Nurses and the Headway Emergency Fund.

  • £15 enables to recruit and support one of our indispensable volunteers for a month
  • £25 provides a family information pack to support people in the aftermath of a brain injury
  • £30 helps us run Headway's national helpline for an hour
